Legacy Equipment Support

DesignCore Systems provides engineering support for legacy and end-of-life equipment where original manufacturer support is no longer available. We work with organisations that depend on equipment that cannot easily be replaced — helping extend operational life, recover documentation, and modernise systems incrementally.

Our legacy support services include reverse engineering of PCBs and mechanical assemblies to produce current documentation, obsolete and long-lead component sourcing, schematic recovery from physical hardware, firmware extraction and analysis, and system modernisation by replacing obsolete subsystems with modern equivalents while preserving the broader installation.

We work with manufacturing, utilities, defence, and research organisations where legacy equipment is deeply embedded in operational processes. Our goal is to provide a clear assessment of options — extend, modernise, or replace — with the engineering evidence to support your decision.

Scope & Limitations

Legacy equipment support is provided on a best-effort basis. DesignCore Systems does not guarantee the availability of obsolete components or the feasibility of reverse engineering all systems.

Original manufacturer warranties may be voided by third-party modification. Clients should verify warranty status before engaging repair or modification services.

Support for equipment containing hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos, certain chemicals) may require additional safety assessments and is subject to regulatory compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as legacy equipment?
Legacy equipment generally means any system or assembly where the original manufacturer no longer provides support, spare parts, or documentation — or where the original manufacturer no longer exists. This includes equipment from the 1970s through to more recent systems that have simply been discontinued. Age alone is not the defining factor; what matters is whether ongoing support is available through normal channels.
Can you source obsolete or discontinued components?
We work with specialist component brokers and distributors with access to last-time-buy stock, pull components, and new-old-stock. While we cannot guarantee availability for all obsolete parts, we can perform a sourcing assessment and advise on alternatives where direct replacements are not obtainable. Drop-in compatible equivalents or re-engineered sub-assemblies may be an option where original parts are unobtainable.
Do you provide ongoing support contracts?
Yes — for clients with fleets of legacy equipment or critical systems requiring ongoing engineering support, we can arrange a structured support agreement. This typically covers a defined number of engineering hours per period, priority response to failures, and proactive risk reviews. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
